Daniel Paul Kettwig (1960-1999)

Daniel Paul “Danny” Kettwig, 38, of 5807 Tanager Place, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Avera McKennan Hospital.

He was born July 30, 1960, in Sioux Falls. He grew up and received his education in Harrisburg.

He worked as a welder for several area businesses. He was presently employed with Bernhard Home Improvement.

Survivors include two sons: Justin and Cody both of Sioux Falls; his mother, Margaret Verhey and her husband, Clarence, of Sioux Falls; his father, Donavon E. and his wife, Arlene, of Sioux Falls; one brother, Donavon J. of Marion; two sisters: Diane Albers and Darcie Reed both of Sioux Falls; his grandmother, Florine Schier of Sioux Falls and special friend, Mary Eide of Arnold’s Park, Iowa.

Services begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Harrisburg United Methodist Church, with burial in Pleasant View Cemeteryin Harrisburg.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today at George Boom Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

Franklin F. Uphoff (1935-1999)

FLANAGAN — Franklin F. Uphoff, 63, of rural Flanagan died at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at St. James Hospital in Pontiac. Born June 14, 1935, in rural Minonk to Frederick B. and Alice Kettwich Uphoff, he married Nancy Falk on Oct. 10, 1957, in Minonk. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Steven of Lexington and Duane of Round Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Stan (Kathy) Rueger of Bloomington and Mrs. Randy (Jerri) Vogel of Springfield; two brothers, Frederick of Pontiac and John of Minonk; one sister, Fern Schlueter of Minonk; and four grandchildren. He worked for Ruff Brothers Trucking in Long Point for the past 17 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Minonk, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Faye Buttrick will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Folkers-Froelich Memorial Home in Minonk. Burial will be in Minonk Township Cemetery. George W. Krug Jr. (1907-1996)

MINONK — Services for George W. Krug Jr., 89, of Rural Route 1, who was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 1996, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Minonk. The Rev. Wayne Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Folkers-Froelich Memorial Home in Minonk. Burial will be in Minonk Township Cemetery. He was killed when his car hit a land scraper traveling in reverse down a county road east of Minonk. Born Feb. 21, 1907, in Panola Township, Woodford County, to George W. Sr. and Louise S. Bayer Krug, he married Marie A. Kettwich on Sept. 19, 1935, in Minonk. She died Jan. 24, 1977. One brother and one great-grandson also preceded him in death. Surviving are three daughters, Joanne Wilcox of rural Bloomington, Rose Spires of rural Minonk and Nancy Konwinski of Minonk; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was a farmer in Panola Township. He and his brother were turkey suppliers in the Minonk area. He was a member of Parents Without Partners, Woodford County Farm Bureau and the National Farmers Organization. He served on the Minonk High School Board. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Minonk, where he was the organist for more than 40 years. Memorials may be made to his church or to Minonk Rescue Squad.

Wayne Franklin Kettwich (1922-1991)

MINONK – Wayne Franklin Kettwich, 68, of 719 Oak St. died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1991, at Brokaw Hospital in Normal. Born Dec. 18, 1922, in Flanagan to Carl and Minnie Harms Kettwich, he married Marjorie Cunningham on Jan. 28, 1949, in Sterling. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, John of Hennepin and Paul of Brandon, Fla.; one daughter, Janet Hall of Bloomington; one sister, Florence Durre of Flanagan; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. He was a Minonk police officer for 28 years, serving several years as police chief before retiring in 1985. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he was a member of the Minonk American Legion Post.

He also was a member of Minonk Baptist Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at his church, the Rev. Harry Sanders officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Folkers-Froelich Memorial Home in Minonk, and also one hour before services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Minonk Cemetery. Memorials may be made to his church or the American Cancer Society.

Carl Kettwich (1887-1972)

Carl U. Kettwich, 85, of Minonk, formerly of the Flanagan area, died at 11:57 PM Tuesday, December 5, in St. James Hospital, Pontiac. He had been a patient there for the past six weeks.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11AM Friday at St. Petri’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Marvin Krueger officiating. Burial will be in St. Petri’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4 PM today (Thursday) at the Froelich Memorial Home in Flanagan.

He was born July 25, 1887, near Minonk, son of Uffe and Gesche (Schlomer) Kettwich. He married Minnie Harms February 22, 1911. She died April 30, 1962.

Surviving are two sons, Orville and Wayne, of Minonk; one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Florence) Durre, rural Minonk; three brothers, Eilert and John, Minonk; Uffe of Bloomington; three sisters, Mrs. Sena Rients, Minonk; Mrs. Everett Post, Titonka, Iowa; Mrs. Lucy Ostermann, Elmore, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Kettwich was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and St. Petri Bible Class. He served on the church board for a number of years and was very active as a Sunday School teacher. He was a long-time member of the Maple Grove School Board.

He moved from his farm to Minonk a year and half ago.

Lena (Kettwich) Baumann (1873-1960)

Mrs. Lena Baumann, 87 Died Sunday

Mrs. Lena Baumann, 87, died at her home Sunday morning. She had been ill for several months.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2 PM at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. Edwin Riske officiating. Burial was in the Minonk cemetery. Pallbearers were all grandchildren of the deceased: Dean Uphoff, David Uphoff, Don Uphoff, Duane Baumann, Loren Cremer and Phillip Rupright. Singers were Mrs. Mina Kalkwarf and Mrs. Norma Turner. Organist was George Krug, Jr.

She was born September 21, 1873 in Sacramento, Calif., the daughter of Uffa and Gesena Schlomer Kettwich. She came to Minonk when she was six weeks old traveling mostly in a stage coach.

She married Frank Baumann on March 15, 1893, at Windtown. They lived on a farm east of Minonk. Her husband passed away in 1935. She moved to Minonk in 1940.

Surviving are two sons, Rank and Alfred, both of Minonk; four daughters, Mrs. Sena Telthorster of Marysville, Ohio; Miss Ann Baumann of Detroit, Michigan; Miss Adelin Baumann and Mrs. Florence Uphoff, both of Minonk; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Ostermann of Woden, Iowa; Mrs. Sena Rients of Minonk; Mrs. Anna Post of Titonka, Iowa; four brothers, John, Carl and Eilert, all of Minonk, and Uffa of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Her husband, one son, one sister and three brothers preceded her in death.

Harm Kettwig (1844-1930)

Hiermit allen Verwandten und Bekannten zur Nachricht, daß es dem allmächtigen Gott gefallen hat, meinen lieben Mann und unsern lieben treusorgenden Vater, Groß- und Urgroßvater Harm Kettwig aus dieser Zeit in die Ewigkeit abzurufen. Der Verstorbene war am 26. Januar 1844 zu Stiekelkamperfehn, Ostfriesland, geboren. Er war 13 Jahre im Schifferberuf tätig; dann blieb er im Frühjahr 1865 in New York und verheiratete sich im September desselben Jahres mit Harmina Rave. Von New York zogen sie bald nach Forreston, Ill., und nachdem sie einige Jahre dort gewohnt hatten, wanderten sie weiter westwärts nach Iowa und bezogen eine Farm nahe bei Parkersburg.

Nach einem arbeitsreichen Leben setzten sie sich 1907 in Parkersburg zur Ruhe. Hier starb er nun am 18. Mai und erreichte somit das gesegnete Alter von 86 Jahren, 3 Monaten und 22 Tagen. Die Ehe wurde von Gott gesegnet mit 13 Kindern, von denen 4 im zarten Alter gestorben sind, eine Tochter, Aleida, starb im Alter von 23 Jahren, sie war verheiratet mit Ben Kneppe. Um sein Dahinscheiden trauern die hochbetagte Witwe, 4 Söhne: Nanne, Joe, Christ und Jerry, 4 Töchter: Mrs. Ben Kneppe, Mrs. Dena Wallbaum, Mrs. Kate Wallbaum und Mrs. Grace Cramer, 28 Enkel und 9 Urenkel. Das Begräbnis fand am 21. Mai in Parkersburg statt bei großer Beteiligung unter Leitung des Unterzeichneten. Im Namen der trauernden Witwe:

Uffe Gerdes Kettwich (1842-1923)

Funeral Services For Aged Flanagar Citizen on Last Saturday.

Uffe Gerdes Kettwich, son of Konrad and Luebke Kettwich, was born at Warsingsfehn, East Frisia, Germany, on the 12th of October, 1842. He was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran church. In his early manhood Mr. Kettwich was master of a fishing vessel, plying his trade in the stormy waters of the North Sea. On the 28th of January, 1871, he was united in wedlock with Gesche Hinrichs Schloemer, with whom he experienced the joys and sorrows of this earthly life for the duration of 52 years and two months.

Shortly after their marriage the young couple emigrated to America settling in California, where they made their home for upwards of two years, when they moved to Minonk township, and where the deceased farmed until old age bade him cease from his labors. In 1916, Mr. and Mrs. Kettwich retired to the village of Flanagan. About two years ago the deaceased suffered from a severe attack of pneumonia, from which he never fully recovered. His strength slowly declined, and on last Wednesday evening at 9:40, the 28th of March 1923 the end came. The Lord blessed him with a long life: 80 years, 5 months and 16 days. Besides the widow, ten children mourn their father’s passing, two having preceded him in death, one in early infancy, the other, Mrs. Christine Wyman, four years ago during the epidemic of influenza. The surviving children are: Mrs. Lena Baumann, Flanagan; George Kettwich of Minonk; Henry Kettwich of Minonk; Mrs. Lucy Ostermann of Titonka, Ia.; John Kettwich of Minonk; Carl Kettwich of Flanagan; Eilert Kettwich of Minonk; Uffe Kettwich of Flanagan; Mrs. Sena Rients of Flanagan; and Mrs. Anna Post of Titonka, Iowa.; and thirty-four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

The funeral services took place Saturday at 1:00 p. m., at the home and at 2:00 o’clock at the Windtown Lutheran church, Rev. Telthorster officiating, assisted by Rev. Groth. Burial in the Windtown cemetery. The pallbearers were the six sons and the flower girls were grandchildren – Grace and Clara Wyman and Katherine and Florence Kettwich.

Uffe Kettwich Passes Away Last Night at Age of Eighty

Uffe Kettwich, past 80 years, died at his home at Flanagan last night at about 10 PM after several weeks of sickness. He really had been in poor health since two years ago when he was stricken with pneumonia.

The deceased was born in Germany and as a young man was married to Geske Slomer. The young couple came to America and at first located in California, but later came here and for many years resided on their farm near Flanagan, or until they retired and moved to Flanagan.

The widow and the following ten children survive: Mrs. John Ostermann and Mrs. Everett Post, of Titonka, Iowa; Mrs. Lou Rients of Dana; Mrs. Frank Bowman and Henry, John, Eilert and George Kettwich of Minonk; and Charles and Uffe Kettwich of Flanagan.
