Lenhard Kettwig, Jahrgang 1929 aus Jarssum

Im November 1944 bekam der 1929 geborene Jarssumer Hitlerjunge Kettwig seinen Einberufungsbefehl ins Ausbildungslager nach Weener. „Ich wurde von meiner Lehrstelle freigestellt und musste mit 35 weiteren Ostfriesen nach Weener. Ausgebildet wurden wir von kriegsversehrten Veteranen, die uns mit hölzernen Gewehren und Panzern auf den Endkampf vorbereiten sollten. Morgens um 6 Uhr wurden wir aus den Federn geschmissen und „geschliffen”. Nach vierwöchiger mangelhafter, wenn auch harter Ausbildung, durften wir wieder nach Hause fahren. Im Frühjahr 1945 kam dann der Einberufungsbefehl nach Friesoyte, wo wir den heranrückenden Feind bekämpfen sollten. Mein Bruder war bereits gefallen und ein anderer an der Front, so dass mein Vater mich nicht losließ, obwohl ich wollte. Das war mein „unrühmliches” Ende als Volkssturmmann.

Wir mussten Strammstehen usw. Die Verpflegung war sehr schlecht. Meine Mutter hatte mir noch Speck mitgeben. Getragen haben wir unsere HJ-Uniformen”

Dieser Text entstammt dem Buch “Das gelehrte Ost Friesland” (3. Band) von Enno Johann Heinrich Tiaden, erschienen in Aurich im Jahr 1790. Im Text befinden sich sicherlich noch Fehler, da ich viele Stellen nicht richtig entziffern konnte – vor allem die lateinischen Passagen und Eigennamen (der hier verlinkte Google-Scan stand mir damals noch nicht zur Verfügung und ich habe den Text noch nicht korrigiert). Eleanor Faye (Kettwig) Bowen (1943-2008)

ELEANOR FAYE BOWEN (nee Kettwig), age 65, of Lake Station passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008.

She was born on July 22, 1943 in Chicago Heights, IL to the late Henry and Doris Kettwig. Eleanor was a longtime Lake Station resident and was retired from Porter Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed crafts and bunco and was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

Eleanor is survived by her husband of over 47 years, Macarthur Bowen of Lake Station, IN; three children: Virginia Gale (Scott) Murphy of Portage, IN, Henry Baker (Rina) Bowen of Portage, IN and Timothy Mac Bowen of Lake Station, IN; five brothers: Joseph (Sandy) Kettwig of Doniphan, MO, Russell (Jeanie) Kettwig of Portage, IN, Anthony “Tony” (Beth) Kettwig of Lake Station, IN, Ronald (Teresa) Kettwig of Lake Station, IN and Daniel (Lisa) Kettwig of Portage, IN; one sister, Carol (Steve) Rummell of Portage, IN; four grandchildren: Anthony and Christopher Bowen, Shawn and Megan Murphy; and best friend, Debbie Szmutkko. She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Doris Kettwig.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station with Rev John Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Visitation is Friday, November 28, 2008 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, Lake Station. Paul Eilert Kettwig (1921-2010)

Paul Eilert Kettwig, 88, died on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at home. Paul was born on Aug. 21, 1921, in Waterloo, IA, son of Oliver Ludwig and Minnie (Youngman) Kettwig. Paul married Alice Mary Ingegnosi in Rockford, IL, in August of 1947. Alice died in February of 1978. He later married Mary Ellen Matthews on Jan. 13, 1979, in Elkhorn, WI. Paul was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving during WWII, and owned and operated Kettwig’s Paint Bucket in Whitewater with his brother, Robert. Paul was a member of Cargill United Methodist Church. He also took great joy in water-walking and in the friends he met through the Janesville YMCA water-walking program. Paul enjoyed two long, loving marriages, and was a wonderful, supportive father. “Tall Paul” was a gentle, caring man, who will be missed by his family and friends. Paul was a part of the “greatest generation” who quietly went about his life. Those that met him aspired to be more like him. His lasting legacy will live on, as we reflect on how much we learned from him and how our days will be better because we knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Kettwig of Janesville; his daughter, Linda (John) Wrobel of Arbor Vitae, WI; two stepchildren, Sandra Lee Garcia of Orland, CA, and Larry (Megan) Matthews of Whitewater, WI; a sister, Marianne “Punky” (Jerry) Steck of Whitewater, WI; and five stepgrandchildren: Raquel Garcia, Jennifer Garcia, Brandon Tschacher, Benjamin Matthews, and Andra Matthews.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, Alice, Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Richard; and a sister, Joyce Simon.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at CARGILL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Janesville, with Rev. Forrest Wells officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the CHURCH. Military rites will be provided by Kienow-Hilt VFW Post #1621. BRIAN HANSEN FUNERAL SERVICE, 608-752-8800, Janesville, is assisting the family.

Marvlyn “Lynn” Kettwig (1938-2011)

Kettwig, Marvlyn “Lynn” 73, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs on Sunday July 17, 2011. Lynn is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Ronald J. Kettwig of Bonita Springs; her brother, Wesley Perkins and sister-in-law, Marlys Perkins of Butte, ND; daughters, Stephanie Lynn Kettwig of Bonita Springs; Amy Beth Jeffrey and her husband Bruce Jeffrey of Stony Brook, NY. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Rhiannon, Eowyn and Brendan Jeffrey, whom she loved dearly.

Lynn was born May 11, 1938 in Chicago, IL and later graduated from Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN on September 11, 1959 where she continued to work for four more years. During this time she met her devoted husband Ron on a blind date and they were married on September 17, 1960. Along with raising two children, Lynn enjoyed a variety of nursing experiences in her career, she established households in multiple states as well as England, and eventually became a doting grandmother to her grandchildren. She loved books, fall colors, cool weather and mussels with butter. We will miss her dearly.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in St. Paul, MN at a later date. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Lynn’s name be directed to Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice 27200 Imperial Parkway, Bonita Springs FL 34135. Mary E. Cerato (1924-2010)

Mary Elizabeth Cerato (nee Gollick) Born July 10, 1924, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Silver Cross Hospital.10, 2010.

Preceded in death by her husband Dominic (1970), her parents Charles and Edith (nee Schinella) Gollick and a precious daughter in infancy. Survived by her two daughters Nicolette (Kenneth) Lingle and Pam (Larry) Kettwig; loving Nana to Michael (Theresa) Kettwig, Jayna (Kevin) Birdsong and Jamie “her little Min” Kettwig; three great-grandsons Jacob and Nolan Birdsong and Dominic Kettwig. Devoted nephew Mark (Rita) Facchina and nephew Michael (Joann) Facchina; devoted cousin Jeanette Gollick, special cousins Deloris (Loll) Poole, Norma Jean Carroll and Raymond (Jackie) Poole; “The Girls” goddaughter Susan (Ron) Naples, Barb (John) Petriekis and Jude (Pete) Danille. Sincere thank you to her neighbors Georgia and Gary.

Mary was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Anthony. Previously employed at Friedrich Binding and Embossing with over 20 years of faithful service.

Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials in her name to Senior Services Center of Will County or Friends of Sunny Hill will be appreciated. Visitation Friday from 3:00-8:00 P.M.

Marna Sue Rutledge Kettwich, 59, of O’Fallon, IL, born October 1, 1951 in Arthur, IL passed away September 1, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Marna attended First Baptist Church of O’Fallon for the majority of her adult life. A graduate of Arthur High School in 1969, Marna continued her education at McKendree University, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Society, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1973 with a double-major in English Education and History. While at McKendree, Marna, affectionately known as Marn, met her loving husband Paul. In 1977, she earned a Master of the Arts in Counseling from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Allen J. Kettwich (1942-2011)

MINONK — Allen J. Kettwich, 68, Waite Park, Minn., formerly of Minonk, died Monday (Aug. 22, 2011) at home surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.
Allen requested that his body be donated to medical research. Memorial contributions may be made in Allen’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2025 East River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55419.
Born Dec. 3, 1942, in Streator, son of Orville and Freida Kettwich, he lived in Minonk; Rockford; Crown Point, Ind.; and Waite Park, Minn. At the time of his death, he was employed by Coborn’s Inc. as the director of manufacturing. Allen was a Master Mason, and was elected to the Upper Midwest Bakery Association Hall of Fame in 2009. MINONK – Allen J. Kettwich , 68, Waite Park , Minnesota, ehemals Minonk , starb am Montag ( 22. August 2011 ) zu Hause von Familie und Freunden umgeben, nach einem mutigen Kampf mit einer längeren Krankheit.
Allen hat seinen Körper der medizinischen Forschung gespendet. Spenden in Allen’s Gedenken können an Shriners Hospital for Children 2025 East River Parkway , Minneapolis, MN 55419 vorgenommen werden.
Geboren 3. Dezember 1942 , in Streator , Sohn von Orville und Freida Kettwich , lebte er in Minonk ; Rockford , Crown Point , Indiana , und Waite Park , Minnesota.  Zum Zeitpunkt seines Todes , war er als Leiter der Fertigung bei Coborn Inc. beschäftigt.
